Nancy Carol Hoerning Brown, age 48, died peacefully Monday, neember 4, 2013 ineer Pittsboro home surrounded by her loving family. Nancy was born in Brooklyn, NY to Edward F. and Gertrude Swezey Hoerning. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Family in Chapel Hill and worked as a registered nurse at Duke Medical Center for twenty-six years. Nancy spent her early years in Suffern, NY, Woodbury, NJ, and Mickleton, NJ, before her family moved to Gastonia, NC in 1980. She graduated as valedictorian from Hunter Huss High in Gastonia in 1983, theneeceived her BSN summa cum laude from UNC-Greensboro in 1987, and beganeer career at Duke that same year. In addition to her parents, Nancy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 22 years, Keith John Brown of Pittsboro, NC; her brother, Thomas Edward Hoerning and wife, Ann, of Charlotte, NC; her mother and father-in-law, Jane and John Brown of Roanee, AL; her nieces and nephews, Matthew Brown, Brandon Truitt, Emily Brown Jackson, Laura Hoerning, Olivia Hoerning Baxley, Maria Baxley, Matthew Baxley and Caroline Baxley; and her beloved cat, Baker. She was preceded ineeath by her grandparents and her younger brother, Robert Paul Hoerning. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, neember 9th from the Church of the Holy Family in Chapel Hill. Friends may visit Friday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham.
