Nancy Rigsbee May, 74, of Pittsboro, died June 12, 2010 at her home. Born April 5, 1936 in Durham, Mrs. May was the daughter of William Norman Rigsbee and Thelma McFarland Rigsbee. She was a graduate of Durham Business School, and was a retired accountant / bookkeeper. Mrs. May was a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church. Mrs. May served as Mayor of the Town of Pittsboro for two terms, from 2001 2005. While serving in that position she represented the town on the Chatham County Economic Development Board and the Trianee Area Rural Planning Organization. Before beineelected mayor, she served for several years on the Pittsboro Planning Board. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Norman and Kaye Mitchell-May of Wilmington, Dennis and Miranda May and Brian and Robin May all of Pittsboro; a brother, Bill Rigsbee of Albemarle; brother-in-law, Jerry Ellis of Hurdle Mills; and grandchildren, Megan Suttles of Brooklyn, NY, Erin May of Wilmington, Kasie, Keri, and Karlie May, Frank and Taylor May, all of Pittsboro. Her husband, Frank May, and a sister, Gail Ellis, preceded Mrs. May ineeath. The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Nancy May will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Pittsboro Baptist Church by Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Danny Braswell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6 8 pm Tuesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro, and at other times at the May residence.
