Nancy York Gupton

Nancy York Gupton, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, was called home to rest on May 29, 2017, after a short but intense illness.?? She was the daughter of the late Genolia and Reuben W. York Sr., and beloved sister to brother Reuben W. ???Jimmy??? York, Jr., and brother Timothy A. York.?? She will always be remembered for her bright smile, caring attitude, appetite for life, as well as, her sweet Southern attitude.?? She leaves behind her faithful husband of 56 years E. Avon Gupton, daughter Holly, brother Timothy York, and brother-in-law Stuart Warner, nephews, nieces. A daughter: ??Memories flood your mind when you go to recall all of the things about one of your parents at their passing. The most important memory is the love she had for my Dad.???? They shared just about everything, but I know there were days when she was quite happy Dad was out playing golf. Probably the next thing to loving my Dad, me and her family, was her love for the screened porch on the back of the house.?? She would have lived out there year 'round if she could have, and seemed to do so in the summertime.?? She loved sitting on the porch watching the birds, talking with friends, enjoying the beautiful days, regrettably abandoning the porch on the hot or bad weather days. If she was not on the porch she was likely watching sports on the TV.?? On the hierarchy of love, sports was ran a close race just behind the family.?? She loved her Duke Blue Devils and was known, on occasion, to be heard from outside the house, with the windows closed, yelling her Blue Devils to victory. For me, it was not just the love, but the trust. She trusted me to think and make decisions for myself.?? She would talk through things with me, but I was to come to my own conclusions.?? Some folks thought I had the ???cool mom???, but it was just her letting me be myself, while having open arms just in case I needed her. She remembered everything going on in our lives, and would ask about things whenee would talk.?? My mother was always there, and will always be there in my heart.?? I will always be proud to be her daughter. A brother-in-law: ?????Okey Dokey Shuggy.??? These are the words I will always associate to our sweet Nan. Nancy Gupton was as kind and generous to me the day we met as she was ineer last days, squeezing our hands to let us know that she loved us. I was a stranger when I first met Nancy, but she embraced me immediately as a family member and made me feel like family.?? Nancy was kind and thoughtful.?? She neer forgot your birthday. I was fortunee to have had Nancy in my live for the last 25 years. I will sorely miss her, her love, her laughter, her hugs, and most of all her waving bye at the door.?? We love you Nan.
