Nellie Veasey Leonard

Nellie Veasey Leonard, age 78, died Sunday morning at Yancey Rest Home in Hillsborough. She was a Durham native born to the late Otho and Mary Pollard Veasey oneecember 28, 1926. Nellie retired from Liggett & Myers after 50 years of employment. She was an active member of Greystone Baptist Church, where she voluneered her time and talents with the Second Mile Ministry and the Joy Sunday School Class. Nellie is survived by her sister, Jeaneeasey of Chapel Hill; her brother, Johnny Veasey of Durham; her long-time and very special friend, Carolyn Swanson of Durham; one niece, Michele Lineerry and husband, David, also of Durham; four nephews, Bill Veasey and wife, Joan, of Durham; Ricky Sloan of New Hampshire; Michael Edwards and wife, Debra, and Blake Hogan, all of Durham; and nee great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 20, from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service with Mr. Jack Rigsbee presiding. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday evening from 7:00-8:30 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable or contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720; or Durham Rescue Mission, 1201 E. Main St., Durham, NC 27701. Arrangements for the Leonard family are under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
