Patricia Gray May Parker

January 18, 1942 — April 6, 2024

Patricia Gray May Parker, age 82, passed away in Durham, North Carolina on April 6, 2024. She was born on January 18, 1942, to the late Charlie Coble May and Kittie Gray Guy May.

Pat (Trish or Trisha to her family in Alabama) was born in Salitpa, Clarke County, Alabama. She graduated from nearby Jackson High School and received her Bachelor of Science (Phi Beta Kappa) and master’s degrees from The University of Alabama where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Upon graduation she received an internship with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Atlanta, Georgia which led to her becoming a manager of several HUD programs in the Southeast. After six years of this very promising career, she ended it for the calling of mother, wife, and homemaker.

Pat is best described with words such as intelligent, kind, beautiful, curious, patient, and stylish. She was an avid reader, interested in government, politics, and world and local affairs. Pat enjoyed long walks and quiet mornings watching the birds. Many will remember her for her warm and kind smile and sense of humor.

She will be missed and remembered always as a wonderful mother, wife, sister, and friend.

Pat is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frank Whitmore Parker and their two daughters, Jennifer Parker Brown (Chris) and Susan Whitmore Parker, and her grandchildren: Sierra Catherine Brown, Christopher Maxwell Brown, Matthew Chase Brown, Grayson Elizabeth Thorpe, and William Parker Thorpe. She is also survived by brother Dr. Allen Wayne May (Eleanor) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and sister Nancy May Woodson (Wendell) of Jackson, Alabama, as well as many nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives.

Pat is predeceased by brother Dr. Charles Eugene May (Patricia Holland) of Jackson, Alabama, sister Katherine May Ransone (Coleman B. Ransone, Jr) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and sister Deloris Neil May of Birmingham, Alabama.
