Peggy Beard Owens

Peggy Beard Owens, 88, died peacefully at Croasdaile Village in Durham, NC on July 28, 2018. She was borneeggy Flowe Beard on January 12, 1930 in Raleigh. She grew up in Fayetteville and was a member of Hay Street Uneed Methodist Church. A graduate of Fayetteville High School and later Greensboro College, Peggy taught math and coached in both Candor and Hope Mills. She was the daughter of Joseph Osborne and Mattie Flowe Beard, step-daughter of Ella Garrett Beard; wife of the late Russell Linwood Rivenbark, and in 1984 married the Rev. Charles Owens. She enjoyed many happy years with Charles in Roxboro and Durham. She loved to walk, play crochet, cribbage, dominos and keeping in touch with friends and family. She loved going to her cottage on Oak Island. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Charles Owens; children Joseph Russell Rivenbark and wife Leslie of Durham; Joella Rivenbark Powell and husband Joey of Erwin; Robert Linwood Rivenbark of Kannapolis and wife Carina; Suzanne Rivenbark Shearon and husband Charles of Concord; step-children Eddie Owens and wife Jan of Cary; Bobby Owens of Raleigh; and Rosa Owens Rouse of Durham; grandchildren Elisabeth S. Strickland (Robert), Jonathan D. Sanders (Kristin), Laura S. Murphy (Steven), Adam R. Rivenbark, Katie R. Moore (Kevin), Ashley P. Rivenbark, Seth Shearon and Grace Shearon; step-grandchildren: Wesley Owens (Ryann), Brad Owens, Jessianne McMurray (Ryan), Kaitlyn Rouse; 12 great-grandchildren. The family is grateful for the visits and prayers given during Peggy???s journey with Alzheimer???s and the care from the nurses and staff of Croasdaile Village Pavilion. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Few Chapel in Croasdaile Village. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer???s Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
