Pelham Merritt Poole, 93, of Granville County, NC, died peacefully on May 4, 2022, in Rocky Mount, NC surrounded by his loving caregivers. He was born on March 20, 1929, in Allensville, NC, son of the late Murat Shields Poole and Jessie Cary Poole.
Pelham worked as a farmer all his life in Granville County, earned his GED as an adult, and was an active member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and in the family gospel quartet and, on rare occasions, played John Henry and Under the Double Eagle on the harmonica, the only songs he knew. He loved Christmas, having his picture taken, dancing to country ballads, and mulligan stew.
Surviving is his loving wife of 73 years, Janet McLean Poole; his beloved children, Michael (Marjorie) Poole, Randy (Janet) Poole, Linwood Poole, and David Poole, Cathy Poole, and Amy (Fielding) Daniel and his nephew, Barry (Marie) Canning of Texas. He also leaves behind 11 beloved grandchildren and 6 precious great grandchildren and many extended family and friends too numerous to name.
Graveside services will be held at on May 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, with Reverend Jessie W. (Sam) Mooney officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Olive Branch Baptist Church Missions Fund.
