Penny Christine Mitchell, age 71, died peacefully on Saturday, September 10, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Noland Smith and Mary Chisenhall Smith. Penny was born in Durham County, NC on March 12, 1951.

Penny was a strong woman with a love of life, especially fishing.

Penny is survived by her husband of 32 years, Lonnie Mitchell; her son, Christopher Todd Mitchell; her daughter, Courtney Marie Evans (Dustin)and her grandson, Carter Reaves Evans. She will be missed by her brothers, Buster Smith of Durham, Bennie Smith of Durham and her sister, Carolyn Cobb of Mebane and her niece, Sharon Craun. She will also be missed by many extended family and friends too numerous to name.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Billy Smith and Ruth Ann Woodall.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 13th, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church in Oxford, NC and officiated by Reverend Wayne Clark. A visitation for friends and family will be held after the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made in Penny’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
