Penny Blackwood Curran died June 8, 2022. She was born on November 5, 1947 in Durham, NC to the late George Marvin Blackwood and Sarah Oliver Blackwood.
Penny is survived by her brother Steve (Carolyn) Blackwood, her children John (Jade) Goswick, Anne (Joseph) Browning, and her grandchildren Alexis Goswick, Cole Goswick, Patrick Browning, and Marleigh Goswick.
She will be remembered as a loving Mother, Nanaw, sister and aunt. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, and frequently bragged on them all. She always had time to listen, and cherished time spent with loved ones.
Penny graduated from Northern High School in 1966, and later studied at Croft Business College. She worked as a medical assistant for more than 40 years at Watts Hospital, Durham Clinic, Regional Surgical Associates, and Duke. She took great pride in caring for her patients, and had a way of putting them at ease and making them comfortable.
She loved spending time at the beach and Kerr Lake. She was an avid dog lover, and enjoyed spending time with all dogs, and feeding them from the table. She enjoyed shagging to and listening to beach music. She faithfully followed Tar Heel sports, and rarely missed watching a basketball game. She was a fan of western movies, particularly those featuring John Wayne. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to “cut up”, and tell stories and jokes.
