Raymond Harris Greenlaw

On Sunday, December 21, 2008, all of God's angels gathered to sing a heavenly chorus of praise as another voice had joined them. God's good and faithful soldier, Lt. Col. Ret. Raymond Harris Greenlaw, Jr. 88, of Pittsboro, went home. Ray was born neember 14, 1920 ineelrose, Mass, the son of Raymond Greenlaw, Sr. and Marion MacDonald Greenlaw. Ray graduated from the Uneersity of Maryland and received his MSHP from UNCCH ineealth Administration/Planning. He served in the US Army in both WWII and Korea. Ray was also in Viet Nam as a civilian employee. He was a retired health care planner. Ray loved the Lord, and was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. At Mt. Gilead Ray sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and participated ineeveral mission trips over the years. Ray also served on the Chatham Co. planning board and the water advisory planning committee for high density growth. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bob Patten of Hurdle Mills; son, Craig Greenlaw of Coneer; sisters, Carol Spalding and husband Harlan of Wells, Maine and Floss Clinton and husband Bob of Rockport, Mass; grandchildren, Alexis Patten, Baylee Patten, Olivia Patten, and J.R. Patten; and his beloved puppies, Lassie and Laddie. Ray was preceded ineeath by his wife, Rada, whom he lovingly referred to as "Oke-San". The service to celebrate Ray's life will be conducted by Rev. Dan Robinson at 2:00 pm Sunday, December 28, 2008 from Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6 8 pm Saturday at Griffin Funeral Service in Pittsboro.
