Richard Ernest Valliere

Durham, NC - Richard E. Valliere, age 77, died at his Durham home surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. He was born in Portland, Maine on August 17, 1945 to the late Therese and Leopold Valliere.

Richard graduated from Deering High School, St. Francis College, and Northeastern Business College in Maine. He first worked at the local A&P, and then at the Dari Delite with his family. He retired from MetLife after a long career with the company.

Richard was an avid gardener and spent much of his free time growing flowers, vegetables, and berries both at home and at the garden at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Durham, NC. He was a volunteer partner who helped organize and plan the garden at Holy Infant Catholic Church. He enjoyed taking trips to find new nurseries and garden shops and never failed to come home with something new.

He is survived by his partner, Judy Graves and family; daughter, Joy Whitfield and granddaughter Aurora Whitfield, of Durham, NC, and daughter Melissa Valliere of Chesapeake, VA; sisters Pauline Bouchard and husband Roland, and Paula Valliere of Lewiston, ME, and Elaine Ogrodnik and partner Robert Billings, of Gardiner, ME; brothers Robert Valliere and wife Pauline, of Sun City Center, FL, Michael Valliere and wife Ann, of Lewiston, ME, Ronald Valliere of Poland, ME, and Dennis Valliere of Belton, SC; sister-in-law Priscilla Davis McIlwain of Las Vegas, NV, as well as many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Therese and Leopold Valliere, his infant brother, Norman, his infant daughter, Kelly, and his wife, Suzanne.

The service for Richard Valliere will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Holy Infant Catholic Church with interment to follow at St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery in Durham, NC.
