Richard H. Gustafson, PhD, of Durham, North Carolina, formerly of Princeton Junction, New Jersey died at home oneeptember 19, 2007 at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Jeanne K. Gustafson; daughters Lisa J. Foulkes-Arnold of Durham, Kathryn E. Gustafson of Durham, and Kirsten Gustafson-Kapur of Mendham, New Jersey; his twin brother, Robert C. Gustafson; and seven grandchildren.
Dr. Gustafsoneeceived his PhD in virology from the Waksman Institute of Microbiology at Rutgers Uneersity. He was a Research Fellow in the field of antibiotic resistance at American Cyanamid, Princeton, NJ until his retirement. As an active member of the American Rhododendron Society, he served as President of the Princeton Chapter. He was an avid rhododendron hybridizer and plant photographer. Dr. Gustafson had a lifelong passion for classical music and was a strong supporter of the arts in the Princeton area, including McCarter Theater, and for many years was a voluneer at radio station WWFM.
