Richard Todd ???Rick??? McLean passed unexpectedly at his home oneeptember 19, 2016 at the age of 52. Richard Todd ???Rick??? McLean was born on August 6, 1964 in Durham, North Carolina to Charles Alexander McLean, Sr. and Shirley Mae ???Harward??? McLean. Rick loved his city and loved being a part of his community. Rick graduated from Durham High and was a multi-sport athlete throughout his youth and high school career. He was an active youth member of Temple Baptist Church, a member of the Durham Boys??? Choir, rode with the Hi Riders Motorcycle club and was an avid Duke fan. Rick worked as a Healthcare Technician aneeMT at John Umstead Hospital for 20 years, but many will always remember him as Santa Rick. For over 35 years, Santa Rick brought the joy of Christmas to young and old in the Durham community and beyond. Rick brought a big personality, great sense of humor and a genuine spirit to everything he did. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. Rick is survived by his wife of almost 24 years, Janet; his sons, Byron and DeShaun and daughter-in-law, Labertta and their four children, Antonio, Michael, Ethan and Jacob who helped Rick to realize his longstanding dream to be known as ???PeePaw???; brother, Charles McLean, Jr., several nieces and nephews, and his beloved cats, Peanut Butter and Jinee Belle. Family will receive friends at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Durham, NC on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held to honor Rick???s life at Temple Baptist Church in Durham oneeptember 24, 2016 at 2 pm. The committal of burial will follow the service at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham.
