Robert Charles E. Carlson

Mr. Robert Charles E. Carlson, 88, of Alex Cockman Rd., Pittsboro died Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at his home. Mr. Carlson was a native of Jamaica Queens, New York. He was the son of the late Charles Oscar and Mary C. Carlson. Mr. Carlson was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Sergeant in the Calvary. He began his studies in Landscape Design and Urban Planning at Rhode Island School of Design, Michigan State, and Harvard. Later, Robert obtained his Masters of Science in 1965 from Columbia Uneersity ineew York. He served as director of planning in Smithton and Huntington, N.Y. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Muriel E. Carlson; one son, Leif E. Carlson of Pineville, N.C.; one daughter, Elaine J. Henle of Pittsboro, N.C.; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded ineeath by his parents and one daughter Arlene McKillop of Pittsboro. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
