Robert Hargrave, Jr.

Robert Hargrave, Jr passed away on November 8, 2023 in Duke Hospital. He was 80 years old. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hargrave (Carr) who he was married to for 57 years, his brother Doug Hargrave and 4 nieces and 3 nephews. He was the son of the late Robert Hargrave Sr and the late Sara Ambler.

Robert grew up in Abington, PA. Bob had many interests growing up. He went to Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia where he started getting very interested in photography. After graduating from high school, he attended Temple University which is where he met Margaret. They were married in Ocean City, NJ, and lived there after getting married. They enjoyed living near the beach. Then after several years they relocated to Durham, NC, where Robert’s brother and their parents had moved to.

Some of the work Robert did was to teach high school history. He liked to read about current events, politics and history and often could tell you interesting historical facts. He then worked at a photography store and as a photographer. He really enjoyed photography. He took pictures of things he loved, family, nature, the beach, and animals. He loved all animals and supported animal rescue. His pictures have given his family lasting memories of times together.

Final private funeral arrangements were handled by Hall-Wynne funeral home of Durham, NC. Donations made in memory of Robert can be made to Independent Animal Rescue of Durham, NC and Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh, NC.
