Mr. Robert Wayne Longmire, aged 86, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. He was born on June 6, 1937, in Granville County to the late Walter Jeffreys Longmire and Esther Rebecca Beasley Longmire.
Wayne dedicated 46 years of his life to a career as a long-haul truck driver and was a faithful member of the Gospel Independent Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. Known for his kind-hearted nature, Wayne had a reputation for helping others selflessly. His sense of humor and genuine love made him a cherished husband to Betty and a beloved figure to her children.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 16 years, Betty Goss Longmire; his children; Wanda Longmire Watkins (Jimmy), Robin Marlow (Donald), Bobby Mauer (Angela), Balinda Stevenson (Tim), Johnnie Long (Debbie), Mark Long (Amy), Michael Long, William "Marcus" Long, Frank Chambers (Cathy), and MeLisa Hoy (Raymond).
Wayne's legacy also lives on through numerous grandchildren, Ashley Briggs, Allison Watkins, Steven and Phillip Mahon, Johnnie Long, II (Crystal), Kristy and Jesse Long, Megan Brann (Daylon), Alyssa Long, Brandon Long, Lauren Kay (Daniel), Rebecca Long, Ashley Vo (Thai), Christian Tatum (Cailee), Caleb Hoy, Cassie Hoy, and Bethany Hoy (Stephen Lee), his sister, Uzelia L. Elliott and his brother, Wilbur Longmire and his wife, the precious great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
A funeral service honoring Mr. Robert Wayne Longmire's life will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 4:00 pm at the Gospel Independent Baptist Church located at 4061 Stagecoach Road in Oxford, NC 27565. Reverend Robert Greene Jr. will officiate the service with visitation starting at 3:00 pm for family and friends.
The family gratefully accepts flowers and condolences during this time of mourning. The arrangements for the services are entrusted to Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home located at 503 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
