Rosemary Shamborsky Bannan, age 85, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Cedars of Chapel Hill Retirement Community. Borneecember 17, 1926 in Lackawanna County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Sophie Rudalavage Shamborsky. Rosemary was a 1948 graduate of Marywood Uneersity, later receiving her PhD. degree in Sociology from Loyola Uneersity, Chicago. She was on the DePaul Uneersity faculty for 43 years, beginning in 1964. She and her husband moved to the Cedars of Chapel Hill in 2009. Rosemary will be remembered for a life of passion for justice, civil rights and the dignity of humankind. Her interest in human rights spanned the globe from events in Tiananmen Square and throughout Great Britain. She was the author of, "Close Call" and co-author with her husband of, "Law, Morality & Vietnam." Rosemary balanced her vocational endeavors with a love for dancing, the arts and travel. Rosemary is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Bannan of Chapel Hill; her soneeric Bannan and wife, Luanne, of Pittsboro; grandson Zane Bannan; and sisters, Heneetta Rose and Irene O'Hara. She was predeceased ineebruary, 1988 by her daughter, Denee Bannan-Gow, M.D. and also her brother, Edward and sister, Berneette. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10:00 A.M. Thursday from St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W.
