Roy Dowty

DURHAM-Roy Gray Dowty, age 85, of Durham, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in the comfort of his home. Roy was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a parishioner of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He retired from the Air Force after serving 20 years. After his service in the Air Force, Roy owned and operated Coastal Carolina Corporation ineeaufort, NC. Roy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Raymonde Dowty; his daughter, Amanda Derr and husband, Sam of Durham; his sons, Lawrence Dowty and wife, Patricia of Raleigh; William Dowty and wife, Brigitte Helms of Rock Island, IL; Joseph Dowty of Merritt Island, FL and Jerome Dowty and wife, Helen of San Jose, CA; and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded ineeath by his brother, Bedford Dowty. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Saturday, April 23, 2016 at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Fr. Thanh N. Nguyen presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Durham Rescue Mission, 507 E.
