Roy Lee Matthews

Roy Lee Matthews, age 80, died unexpectedly Monday evening, January 18, 2010 at Durham Regional Hospital. A Durham native, Mr. Matthews was born in Erwin, NC to the late Frank and Ada Barnes Matthews. Mr. Matthews and his wife, Barbara, were founders of the Furniture House of Durham which later became Nance Furniture Company. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara G. Matthews of Durham, NC; his daughter, Donna Matthews, also of Durham; his sister, Virginia Hrabovsky of Michigan; and his grandson, Brach Sessoms of Durham. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Woodlawneemorial Park in the Chapel of Hope new mausoleum off Main St. The Reverend Charles Wilson from Glenn School Rd. Baptist Church will preside. Friends may visit with the family following the service in the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Glenn School Rd.
