Ruth Carlton

Ruth Margaret Carlton, 83, of Croasdaile Village, Durham, NC, died peacefully July 7th, 2008. She was born ineewark, New Jersey, daughter of Alfred and Margaret Kucher. In 1943, Ruth graduated from Barnegat High School in Barnegat, New Jersey and did laboratory technician training ineew York City at Paine Hall. She worked at Lenox Hill Hospital during the early part of World War II. Ineecember of 1945, she married Ray Carlton whenee returned from active duty in the South Pacific. Ruth worked for McGraw Hill Publishing Company in Hightstown, New Jersey from 1970 to 1978. She then worked for Educational Testing Services in Princeton, New Jersey until she retired ineecember of 1985. Ruth was a talented quilter and an active member of the quilting guilds of Palm Beach County, Florida and Durham-Orange, North Carolina. She displayed her neerous quilts in many shows in both areas. Her beautiful artwork will be treasured by her family and friends. At Croasdaile Village, she was an active participant in the water aerobics program, "Water Babies," which she enjoyed immensely. She was also a member of the Life Enrichment Committee. Ruth was a strong Christian, active ineer church and community. She served as a deacon and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Yardville, New Jersey for over 20 years. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Ray Carlton; her daughter, Jan Carlton Holland and husband, Jim of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Chase Holland and Jaclyn Holland. She was preceded ineeath by her son, Richard Carlton. A memorial service was held Wednesday, July 9th at Few Chapel, Croasdaile Village, UMRH, 2600 Croasdaile Farm Parkway, Durham, NC 27705, 919-384-2000.
