Ruth McKelvey Autrey, 92, died on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Ruth was born in Mt. Holly, NC to the late Mary Ellen and Rufus McKelvey on March 3, 1918. Ineer youth, Ruth was quite an accomplished pianist. Ineer adulthood, she enjoyed the excitement of cheering on and supporting Duke Athletics. As a member of the Iron Dukes, she regularly attended many football and basketball games. Ruth was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Durham and with her husband Ned was one of the first to join the Croasdaile Country Club. Ruth is survived by her niece Nancy Drysdale of Auckland, NZ; nephews John McKelvey of Ft. Wayne, IN; Rick Autrey of Charlotte, NC; her caregiver and very close friend Maxine Peterson of Mebane, NC; great-nephews Eric Miller of Martinsville, VA; Brian Miller of Durham, NC, LCDR Paul McKelvey of San Diego, CA; Ben and David Walker of Atlanta, GA, and goddaughter Carol Lormand of Richmond, VA. Ruth is predeceased by her husband Ned Morton Autrey, and brothers John Murray McKelvey and James Edgar McKelvey. A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, August 9, 2010 in the Chapel at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St., Durham, NC. Rev. Joseph Harvard and Rev. Marilyneedgpeth will officiate. Interment at Maplewood Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
