Sam Wyndham Craver, Jr. February 13, 1928 February 2, 2013 Sam Wyndham Craver, Jr. passed away peacefully at Galloway Ridge ineearrington Village oneebruary 2, 2013. He was a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. Sam was borneebruary 13, 1928 to Sam Wyndham Craver and May Pitts Craver, in Charlotte, NC. Sam graduated from Central High School in Charlotte, NC in 1946. He continued his studies at The Uneersity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in Journalism. Upon graduationee served in the Army at Fort Bragg during the Korean War. After his military service he joined his father's business, Craver Theaters in Charlotte. After 11 years in Charlotte he moved to Roanee, Virginia to further his theatre career. He had a very distinguished and successful career during his 30 years in the motion picture business. He moved back to Charlotte in 1974 merging his Virginia theatres with Consolidated Theatres in Charlotte, NC. In 1977 he became president of Consolidated Theatres. He and his business partner, Herman Stone, took Consolidated Theatres into the fast growing multiplex theatre business. Consolidated Theatres was based in Charlotte, but built and operated theatres in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama. The business was sold in 1988. At that time he retired to his farm in Union County, North Carolina, and became a geneeman farmer. He enjoyed spending the summers in Blowing Rock, NC at his summer home, while working on the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show. During his younger years he showed in many horse shows. He helped found the Roanee Valley Horse Show and for many years served on the board of the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show. Sam was proud of his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He spent quality time with each and they were the joy of his life. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sarah Sissy Rhodes Craver, son, Sam Craver III and wife Sally of Roanee; son, G. Rhodes Craver and his wife, Ann of Durham; daughter, Ashley and her husband, Howard Rice of Durham; grandson, Stephen Craver of Charlotte; grandson, John Craver of Durham; and granddaughter, Sarah Virginia Craver of Apex, NC. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the Galloway Ridge Arbor Staff, for their excellent care and compassion. A Memorial Service will be held at Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church, 304 East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC on Saturday, February 9th, at 2:00pm. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Galloway Ridge Charitable Fund at 3000 Galloway Ridge Rd., Pittsboro, NC 27312, or to The Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show Foundation, Inc., PO Box 605, Blowing Rock, NC 28605.
