Samuel Clay Sporn, 24, died unexpectedly March 22, 2015 in Asheville. He was borneecember 8, 1990 in Washington, DC. At the time of his death Sam was a student at UNC-Asheville. He attended Immaculata Catholic School and attended Riverside High school, where he ran cross country. Sam also attended Durham School of the Arts, where he studied piano and guitar. Sam could be readily seen about Durham whenee held various jobs while in school. He loved music, the fiction of Kurt Vonnegut, the outdoors and his faithful dog Blaise. Sam had a warm and friendly smile, and will be remembered as a thoughtful and caring son, brother and fiercely loyal friend. Surviving are his parents, Anne and Tom Sporn; his sisters, Catherine and Sarah; his brother, Philip; paternal grandfather, Michael Sporn and maternal grandmother, Augusta Waggenspack. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 12:00 Thursday, March 26, 2015 from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Friends will be received 10-12 Noon Thursday in church. Private cremation will follow the funeral. A reception will be held following the Mass in the gathering space.
