OXFORD: Sidney Minor Farabow, died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at his home on his beloved farm, just three days shy of his 79th birthday. A farmer and lifelong resident of Granville County, he was born to the late Henry and Gladys Minor Farabow. A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Stem Uneed Methodist Church by Rev. Jason Thornton and Rev. Jim Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Iris Haney Farabow, whom he met in Brantford, Ontario, during a summer "adventure," working on a tobacco farm. They have three childreneelizabeth and her husband Steven Wiegand of Raleigh; Amy, and her husband Dan Finch of Bailey; and Benjamin F. Farabow of Oxford. He was "Papa" to five granddaughters; Kathryn Wiegand of Raleigh, Emily Wiegard of Durham, and Rebecca Wiegand of Asheville; Elizabeth Farabow McLain and her husband Clifton, and Amy Catherine Farabow, all of Oxford. He is also survived by his sister, Heneetta F. White of Richmond, VA. The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the church, prior to the service.
