OXFORD: Tapp Latta Hancock, died Sunday March 18, 2012 at Duke Medical Center. She was a native of Vance Co. and the daughter of the late Eric Amos and Gladys Tapp Jones Latta. She was a graduate of Henderson High School and received a bachelor of Music degree from Converse College, Spartanburg, SC. She was a former choir director at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and Oxford Baptist Church and a public school music teacher at Oxford Orphanee, D. N. Hix and J. F. Webb High School. As a member of St. Stephen's, she had served as president of the churchwomen and was a member of the Altar Guild for thirty years. She had been a member of the DAR, Woman's Club, Granville Arts Council Board, Wednesday Literary Club, Current Book Club and several bridge clubs. Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday March 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church by Rev. James Pahl. The family will receive friends following the services in the Parrish hall. Surviving are her husband, Alex Hancock; daughter, Gladys Tapp Hancock of Bakersfield, California; son, Franklin Eric Hancock and wife Patricia; four grandchildren, Alexander Wills, Charles Franklin, Katherine Latta aneelizabeth Anne Hancock of Tampa, Florida.
