Thelma Elizabeth Singleton

March 10, 1943 — February 18, 2025

Bullock

Thelma Elizabeth Singleton, affectionately known to her family and friends as Becky, was born on March 10, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia to her late parents, Rufus Clay Caudill and Eunice H. Davis Caudill. She entered eternal rest on February 18, 2025 in Oxford, North Carolina, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion that touched the lives of many throughout her journey.

Becky dedicated her life to serving others, not only as a devoted caretaker at Mudoch and caretaker to the elderly, but also as a cottage parent at the Oxford Orphanage (Masonic Home), where she provided a nurturing environment for children in need. Her kindness extended to the community through her work in the after-school program at Joe Toler Elementary and other area schools, where she embraced countless young hearts with her warmth and dedication. Becky’s career was a testament to her unwavering commitment to caring for others, a reflection of her sweet and loving spirit.

A woman of great faith, Becky loved Jesus profoundly, which shaped her character and gave her strength in times of need. Her personality was a beacon of light, characterized by tenderness and resilience, and her impact on those around her was lasting.

Becky is survived by her loving daughter, Elizabeth Kay Sawyer, along with her cherished son-in-law, Mike Sawyer, and daughter Kimberly Burcham. She was blessed with twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Becky’s smile was always brighter when her closest grandkids walked in the door lovingly calling her Ma and sharing updates of their lives. Alongside them, many loving extended family and friends honor her memory, each holding dear the wonderful moments they shared with her.

Becky's life was also marked by profound loss. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charlie Singleton, Sr., with whom she shared 57 beautiful years of marriage, and her dear son, Charlie Ray Singleton, Jr. These losses only underscore the deep love that flowed through her family and remind us of the cherished bonds that continue despite separation.

In celebrating her life, family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life on March 8, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford, NC. This gathering will honor not just the life she lived, but the love she shared, the people she cared for, and the countless hearts she touched.

Flowers are accepted or donations in her memory may be made to Grassy Creek Baptist Church, Attention: Treasurer, 9142 Grassy Creek Road, Bullock, NC 27507.

As we remember Thelma Elizabeth Singleton, let us carry her memory forward, honoring her legacy through our own acts of kindness and love. She will be missed deeply but remains forever in our hearts.
