Vergie Cash Howard, 89 passed away neember 9, 2012 at Ashton Place in Greensboro, NC. She was borneecember 9, 1922 in Durham County. She retired from Chatham County Public Schools after 26 years where she beganeer career in cafeteria maneement and continued her education to fulfill her desire to become a certified teacher's assistant at Pittsboro Primary School. There, she nurtured many precious children from kindergarten through second grade. She graduated with honors from Lowe's Grove High School in 1940 and continued to enjoy her yearly reunion with classmates until her decline ineealth. During WWII, Mother worked as a nurse's assistant at Camp Hospital in Pittsboro. Mother would have celebrated her 90th Birthday oneecember 9th with her earthly family and now she will celebrate with her loved ones in what will be the most glorious of celebrations. Over the years many have sat at her table enjoying her Southern culinary talents of homemade biscuits and gravy, the creamiest mashed potatoes, chicken stew, banana pudding, her special lemon cheesecake, caramel cakes triple icing, and chocolate pies. She was the happiest when she could prepare meals for her loved ones and friends. Mother to us, Granny to some, Mrs. Howard or Vergie to others, she will be greatly missed. She is survived by son Larry Howard and wife Jan, daughters Nancy Saitta, Jeneerette Reeves and husband Bud, daughter in law Brenda Howard, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, sisters Katie Sue Mayberry and Lula Mae Stone. She was preceded ineeath by husband Percy J. Howard, soneerald Howard, and son in law Peter Saitta. Visitation will be Sunday, neember 11, 2012 from 5-7pm at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro, N.C. and from 2-3pm Monday, neember 12, 2012 at Bells Baptist Church, 1274 Farrington Road, Apex, N.C. The funeral service will be 3pm at Bells Baptist Church. Interment will be at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, 1785 Mt. Gilead Church Road, Pittsboro, N.C. We want to express our gratitude to her special caregivers in Durham, Tracy and Alice and the caring staff at Ashton Place in Greensboro. In addition, the family deeply appreciates the love and care given to our Mother by her roommate Mrs. Fitts, at Ashton Place.
