Vernoneesley Hilliard

Mr. Vernoneesley Hilliard died after a brief illness Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. He was a lifetime resident of Durham and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since May 1952. He was the son of the late Daniel aneedith Hilliard. Mr. Hilliard served four years in the USAF during the Korean War and attended UNC before working over 35 years in the circulationeepartment of the Herald Sun. He is survived by his wife Peggy Davis Hilliard of Durham, NC; one son, Vernon W. Hilliard, Jr. and wife, Susan of Wendell; one sister, Nellie Slade of Charlotte, NC; one grandson, Wesley Hilliard of Wilmington, NC; two granddaughters, Sarah Roderick and husband, Jared of Nixa, MO, Alexandra Hilliard of Wendell; two great-granddaughters, Mallory and Taylor Roderick of Nixa, MO; one great-grandson Mylik Barnes of Wendell and beloved cat, "Franee" of the home. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 15 at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
