Virginia Dare Tilley

Virginia Dare Tilley, 95, died peacefully Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at her residence in Croasdaile Village. Miss Tilley was born in High Point, NC, on August 25, 1913, to the late Adolphus P. and Fanee M. Malone Tilley. She was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College, class of 1934. Miss Tilley was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, an honorary teacher's society. For 45 years she was a devoted school teacher in the Durham Public School System, retiring in 1979. She was a long-time member of Grace Baptist Church. Miss Tilley loved gardening, flowers, and family; and she was a dedicated, kind, loving and giving person. The family is grateful to Sandra Henderson aneelissa McCoy for giving Miss Tilley special care and love. She is survived by her niece, Carol Ann Guagliardo and her nephew, Michael Bartholomew, both of New York. Miss Tilley was preceded ineeath by her sisters, Grace, Alice, Laura, Sophie aneemily. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, June 8, from Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Vic Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 PM in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 1004 N.
