Wallace Cliftoneeasley

Wallace Cliftoneeasley, Sr., 88, died peacefully in his sleep on October 31, 2010. Mr. Beasley was a long-time resident of Fayetteville and more recently of Pittsboro, NC. He grew up in the Bethesda area, near Durham. Mr. Beasley enlisted in the US Navy in 1938. Before World War II began, he and his shipmates protected Liberty Ships as they made their way across the North Atlantic, taking supplies to England. Once the US entered the war, he fought in many major engagements in the Pacific, including the invasions of Peleliu and Leyete. At war's end he came home to marry his sweetheart, Lila Lee Arnold of Bethesda, NC, in 1946. Mr. Beasley was an honeed member of the Moose Lodge, and a founder of the Fayetteville Chapter of the AARP. He resided in Pittsboro at the Twin Rivers Retirement Home for several years, and was ofteneeen taking his daily walks around that town. He will be remembered for his undying devotion to his wife, his independence, his integrity, and his sly sense of humor. Mr. Beasley was preceded ineeath by his beloved wife, Lee Arnold Beasley of Fayetteville, and his brother, Oliver Beasley of Bethesda, NC. He is survived by his children: Wallace Cliftoneeasley, Jr., and wife Ellen of Pittsboro, NC; Rodney Lee Beasley and Sheila Turnee of Farmville, NC; by grandchildren Arran Gregg and Cliff Dunn of Greenville, NC; by a great-grandson, Jeremiah Blake, of Pittsboro; by his comrade-in-arms Dave Hansen of Falls Church, VA; by neerous nieces and nephews; and by many other friends. A service for Mr. Beasley will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of sending flowers to the family, the family requests that you send flowers to an elderly friend or relative.
