DURHAM Wanda Ercha Jacula, 97, of Durham died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center following a brief illness. Born ineerkimer, NY she was the daughter of the late Peter Ercha and Anna Hovda Ercha. She and her mother survived the flu pandemic of 1918. Growing up as a child she learned to speak Ukrainian, Polish, aneenglish. She was a graduate of De Paul Uneersity School of Music, a member of Sigma Alpha Sota National Music Sorority. Wanda was also one of the founding members of the Ukrainian Arts Club of Chicago, Program Chairman of the Lyric Opera, La Grange Chapter and President of the Allied Arts Club in La Grange, IL. She was an accomplished violinist teaching music at St. Teresa College in Kansas City, Missouri aneestablishing the music department at Lincoln Jr. High School ineerwyn, IL. Wanda loved music, feeding wildlife, but most of all her family. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Dr. Stephen Jacula and her son, Stephen Michael Jacula. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Sotolongo and husband, Carlos; her granddaughters, Emilia Sotolongo and Annamaria Sotolongo and her grandson, Stephen Sotolongo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Holy Infant Catholic Church with the Rev. David Devlin, OSFS. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery in Durham. Friends may visit from 6:00 8:00p.m. Monday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham.
