OXFORD: Waverly Hobgood Barnes, Sr. died March 4, 2013 at Duke Medical Center. He was a native of Granville Co. and was the son of the late George Robert and Mamie Hobgood Barnes. Waverly was a retired farmer and dairy operator, and former employee of Hilltop Lumber Company. He was a member of Tabbs Creek Baptist Church, former deacon and was a former member of the Granville Co. Rescue Squad. He was a veteran of the US Army. Waverly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to hunt and was an avid baseball player and fan. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday March 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Tabbs Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Ken Compton and Rev. Lemar Wheeler. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Surviving is his wife, Ann Howard Barnes; daughter, Cindy McKenee Will of Smithfield; sons Waverly Barnes, Jr. Rhoda of Raleigh and Dudley BarnesCarol of Oxford; sister, Alexine Hoyle of Henderson; brother, Shorty Barnes of Durham; grandchildren, ChrisHolly Barnes, Will Barnes, David Barnes, Keri RojasChris, Jay McKenee, Ann McKenee aneellie McKenee; great grandchildren, Nash Barnes and Carter Rojas. He was preceded ineeath by a sister, Josephine Currin and a brother, Robert Thomas Barnes. The family will receive friends Wednesday March 6, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the services in the Fellowship Hall of the church. At other times they will be at the home of Dudley and Carol Barnes.
