Wayne Steven Hutson, Jr., fondly known to those who loved him as Wayne, Jr. or “Little Wayne,” departed this life far too soon on March 8, 2025, in Durham County, NC at Hock Family Pavilion. Born on November 22, 1978, in Vance County, NC, Wayne's vibrant spirit illuminated the lives of many throughout his journey here. He faced his final days with a heart full of bravery, overshadowed by the relentless grip of cancer—a battle he fought with unmatched strength and perseverance.
As a Crew Chief Surveyor with Pennoni, Wayne embraced his professional life with the same dedication that defined his entire being. He was known for his smart approach to problem-solving, showcasing his capabilities in a field where precision is paramount. Wayne’s contributions went beyond tasks; he inspired his colleagues through his work ethic, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh.
His life resonated deeply with family, who remain to honor his memory. Wayne is survived by his devoted parents, Wayne S. Hutson and Jean Alaine Herring Hutson, who nurtured a strong and brave son. His brother Christopher Chad Wilson and sweet nieces, Ali Wilson and Willow Grace Wilson, all of whom cherished their time with him. His sister, Emily Paige Hutson Wimbrow, alongside her husband, Mikie Wimbrow, will carry forward the cherished memories of their brother. Wayne took pride in being an uncle to his sister’s children, Jayden Whaley and Madilyn Wimbrow, filling their lives with joy.
Wayne was a devoted husband by commitment to Melissa Hicks Hutson, who shared in the tenderness of a bond crafted through understanding and companionship. He also held delight in his role as a stepfather to Courtney W. Jennings (Trey), Joseph Wilson (Taylor), Grace Wilson (Zac), and James Wilson, embodying the depth of a family man. The circle of love also includes his beloved grandson, Greyson, and his furry friend, Theo, who stood faithfully by his side.
Though he leaves behind a tapestry of living relatives, Wayne's absence creates a palpable void that is echoic of the love that once filled spaces with laughter and warmth. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lynwood S. Hutson and Ruby Rae Shotwell Hutson, whose legacies of strength and character were passed down through him. The gentle influences of his maternal grandparents, McKethan and Billie Jane Barlow Herring, and a special mama, Trilby Roberson, shaped him into the compassionate soul he became.
