William Albert ???Al??? Slaughter passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the age of 66. He was borneebruary 6, 1949 to the late William Albert Slaughter, Jr. and Odelle S. Slaughter of Granville County. He attended Granville County Schools and graduated from Pembroke Uneersity. Mr. Slaughter was a successful businessman, working for major banking and financial services businesses covering states from West Virginia to South Carolina. Following his recent retirement, worked at Tires Plus in Oxford. Al was a great sportsmaneearly in his life, Al began playing softball with teams all over North Carolina and known far and wide for his antics on the field. Although he was a prankster, his team mates came to expect him to always give it his all and deliver the home runs when the team needed it. Al was also a passionee golfer aneenjoyed the game like no other. He considered some of his days in life being spent on the links of the many golf courses in the area with all his friends. His friends and family always admired his collection of broken golf clubs. Al loved beach music and the music of Motown. He loved dancing to the tunes with all his friends in the Kerr Lake Shag Club. He will always be remembered for his outgoing personality and how he neer met a stranger. His wild antics, crazy stories and unparalleled humor could keep a whole room laughing for hours. Even though he was fun loving and sometimes carefree, there was a strong, serious side to the man. Al was a man of great integrity, respectful of others and would do anything to help family or friends. His family and friends were his greatest joys in life. Al was a long time member of Mt Zion Baptist Church and had recently moved back to Granville County, enjoying a restored comradery with old friends and family from the church. He was a long time umpire for the Granville County Church Softball Association and Recreationeepartment. He made many lifetime friendships. Al leave behind his wife of nee years, Elaine and two children Lori S. Nichols (Chris) of Matthews, NC, Todd Slaughter of Oxford, one step-daughter, Shannon Cottrell (Lance) of Oxford and one granddaughter, Skylar Cottrell of Oxford. He is also survived by one sister, Linda Coley and one brother, Larry Sylvanus Slaughter, both of Oxford, as well as a special niece and nephews known as the ???Mite??? brothers. On Monday, 24th, the family will received friends at Gentry, neell and Vaughan Funeral Home from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM and other times at the Slaughter home. Funeral services and burial for Mr. Slaughter will be held Tuesday afternoon, August 25 at 2:00 PM, Mt. Zion Baptist Church ineerea. Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions may be made to any of the following church organizations at Mt. Zion Baptist Church: Choir Fund or Youth.
