William Edward Downey, Jr.

William Edward Downey, Jr. died Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Duke Medical Center with his loving wife at his side. Bill was born in North Dighton, MA to the late William E. and Clara LeBlanc Downey on January 3, 1945. His two great loves were his family and his work caring for others. Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife of more than 51 years, Barbara Teetsell Downey of Durham, NC; his three sons and daughters-in-law: William E. Downey, III and wife Lesley of Charlotte, NC; Jonathan Downey and wife Tricia of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and Scott Downey and wife Sandra of Charlotte, NC; aneeight grandchildren: Nell, Clare, Nathaniel, Cordelia, Lachlan, Teague, Noah and Amelia. A Mass ineelebration of his life will be held 2:30 PM Friday, January 5, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Chris VanHaight, OFM, presiding. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Feeding America, 35 East Wacker Drive, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60601; or the Ronald McDonald House, 506 Alexander Ave., Durham, NC 27705.
