William Philip Dalton, 77, of Oxford, NC died peacefully December 20, 2015 at Duke Uneersity Medical Center after a sudden onset illness. A native of Rocky Mount, NC, Phil is survived by his wife of 15 years Marie Lowry Dalton, his daughters Julie (Todd) Dalton Loos of St. Louis and Jane (Wesley) Dalton Currin of Raleigh. Grandchildren, Will and Dalton Loos, Matt and Jacob Currin. And his step children Sharon (Carl) Richardson and Warren (Penny) Cole and grandchildren Jamie and Jenneer Richardson and James and Katie Cole. Phil was preceded ineeath by his parents William Francis Dalton and Heneetta "Tom" Deans Dalton, and first wife of 35 years, Anneeade Dalton. Phil moved to Durham from Rocky Mount in 1950 where he graduated from Durham High School in 1956. He had a long and successful career in the tobacco business starting out in Durham at W. L. Robinson Tobacco Company as a buyer. He theneent to work at J.P. Taylor ineenderson and moved his family to Oxford where he has lived since 1977. In 1998 he retired as a Senior Vice President of Uneersal Leaf Tobacco Company of Richmond, Virginia. Phil was a member of Henderson Country Club where he loved to play golf. He enjoyed feeding his birds, grilling on his Big Green Egg, spoiling his pets, and took great pride in his yard. He was a man with a generous heart and a dry wit. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff members at Duke Uneersity Medical Center for their excellent and loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Phil's honor to the Tribute Fund of Friends of Duke Medicine in support of Pulmonary Research. There will be a memorial service led by Pastor Randy Mann at the Gentry-neell & Vaughan Chapel located at 503 College St, Oxford, NC 27565 on Tuesday, December 22 at 1pm.
