Wilma Barnes Pruitt

OXFORD: Wilma Barnes Pruitt, 87, at home on March 16, 2011, passed from earthly existence and recent suffering into her everlasting life with her Lord and Savior. A member of the Oxford Uneed Methodist Church, Wilma taught Sunday School for three decades in the Vohamme Carr class. Her intensive Bible study and devotion to her teaching were her passion and joy. Wilma loved and cared devotedly for her husband of teneears, Dr. James Farris Pruitt, 92, who lives at home in Oxford. Their happiness was an inspirationeeven to young couples. They enjoyed exceptional physical fitness, maintaining flower and vegetable gardens, home and yard, all throughout their marriage. They collaborated on Sunday School lessons, for he taught Sunday School as well. Wilma loved animals, ofteneescuing and finding homes for them. Ineer eighties, she and Dr. Pruitt adopted their cat Puddy, who continues to be a great joy to her husband James. A graduate of Falls Business College in Nashville, Tennessee, she worked for the Uneed States Department of Agriculture for a few years until she married Charles William Farabow of Stem, North Carolina. They had one child, Cathy Belinda. Wilma was preceded ineeath by her parents, Mary Louise Quarles and Albert Thomas Barnes; brother Woodrow, who died very young; and brother Dorris Alton. She was also preceded by husband Charles William Farabow and fianeeacute; Staff Sergeant Alfred Dorris, USAR, who died in 1942 at Camp Bowie, Texas. She is survived by her sister, Frances Robinson Barnes, of Guthrie, Kentucky; by her husband, Dr. James Farris Pruitt; by her step-children, Carrie Frances Younger and Maurice Clay Pruitt; by her daughter, Cathy Farabow Pruitt; and by Puddy. Her family is profoundly grateful to Duke HomeCare and Hospice, particularly to Ruby Byrd and Christie Gresham, and to all those at the Hock Family Pavilion. Dr. McManus and Dr. Kumar of Granville Medical Center, Terry, and all of the other nurses and aides deserve our deepest thanks. Visitation at Gentry-neell and Vaughan will take place on Sunday, March 20, 2011, from 2:00-4:00 pm. Celebration of Wilma's earthly aneeternal life will be held at the Oxford Uneed Methodist Church on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 2:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery.
