Durham- Woodrow Wilson Painter, Jr. of Durham, NC and New Smyrna Beach, FL passed away March 26, 2017 after an extended battle with Alzheimer???s disease. He was born July 31, 1939 to Woodrow and Vera Kinden Painter in Huntington, WV. One of the youngest members of the Boy Scouts to ever do so, Woody attained the rank of Eagle Scout at 11 years of age. After graduating from South Charleston High School, South Charleston, WV, he was a chemistry major at Marshall Uneersity in Huntington, WV and a member of the Lambda Chi fraternity. He began his work career as a chemist with Firestone in Akron, OH. From there, he moved to American National Rubber (ANR) ineeredo, WV, working there for 21 years, moving up through the ranks to the position of vice president of sales and marketing. He later purchased Clinton Manufacturing in Mansfield, OH, a die cut manufacturing facility that provided parts to the automotive, plumbing, and appliance industries. He sold the business in 2000 and he and his wife retired to Durham, NC to be closer to family and assist their daughter with her business. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wendy Butcher Painter, a daughter, Laura Painter Webb-Murrah (Tommy), a grandson, Ryan Walter Webb (Christina), a great granddaughter, Sophia Elizabeth Webb, and his beloved dog, Petey, all of Durham; and two brothers, William Painter of Ashland, KY, and Terrance Painter of Bushwell, FL. A celebration of Woody???s life will be held Saturday, April 8th at 11:00am at Treyburn Country Club, 1 Old Trail Drive, Durham, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations canee made to the Alzheimer's Association, Washington, DC or Independent Animal Rescue of Durham, NC. Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
