OUR STORY

Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home traces its beginnings to 1905 when the firm was founded in downtown Oxford as Upchurch & Currin Funeral Home, and later, Perkinson & Currin, under the leadership for many years of the beloved Johnny Perkinson and Melvin Currin. Prior to affiliation in 2006, the company was owned and operated faithfully by Stuart Vaughan and John Newell. It was moved into its current Greek Revival residence on historic College Street in 1962. Built-in 1903, it was for many years the A.A. Hicks residence, and in 2016, has undergone an extensive historic preservation to its original splendor while accommodating it more efficiently to the needs of our community.

Gentry-Newell & Vaughan proudly serves Granville County and surrounding areas with dignity and respect by long-time, loyal associates who are well-known in the community, such as, Casey Champion, JoAnn Vaughan, Ed Webb, Larry Currin, Percy Powell, Frances Wheeler, Phillip Hawkins, Cliff Brummitt, Carolyn Moss, Jadyn Cooper and Matt Norwood. Despite the trend of consolidation by publicly traded companies, we proudly maintain our distinction as a privately owned and operated company, directly accountable to the families we serve!
